This qualification reflects the role of an individual working as a senior civil works designer or a para-professional designer, who supports professional engineers. They perform tasks that are broad, specialised, complex and technical and include strategic areas and initiating activities. They are responsible for the design of complex projects to ensure the implementation of the client’s site requirements and are required to demonstrate self-directed application of theoretical and technical knowledge and initiate solutions to technical problems or management requirements.

This program will be delivered over 104 weeks including holidays and Term Breaks. This duration consists of 60 weeks of delivery plus up to 18 weeks of holiday/break time depending upon intake.

Academic requirements

Completion of the equivalent of Australian Year 12 or Certificate IV or higher qualification.

Age Requirement

The minimum age for entry to this program is 18 years or above at the date of your enrolment.

Pre-training Review

Blue Lotus College conducts pre-enrolment Client Needs Analysis to determine course suitability, existing skills and knowledge and an early detection of any learning needs. Pre- enrolment analysis includes LLN testing and identification of specific learning and/or support needs. A pre-enrolment interview may also be conducted. RPL and credit transfer opportunities are provided at the time of enrolment, and an option for students to apply at time during their studies.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy test (LLN)

Candidates undertaking this course must possess sound Numeracy skills since they will be required to do calculations, make recipe cards, and complete menu costing. If learners do not meet English and LLN requirements, learners will be asked to take further Language, literacy, and numeracy training.

Basic Computing Skills

Students are required to have sound computer skills including operating MS Office and doing research on the internet since the course will require students to make reports in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint presentations, and engineering software.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

RPL is available for each unit of competency based on relevant workplace experience, formal training, and/or other expertise. To apply for RPL, please discuss with our student support team or your trainer/assessor.

Credit Transfer

You can be granted Credit Transfer for completed parts, or all, of an accredited qualification, with equivalent units. Please discuss this at the time of enrolment.

Assessments

This program is delivered under competency-based training which means instead of grading or marks, students are required to demonstrate all the criteria for each unit of competency, and students are marked “Competent” or “Not yet competent”. Typical assessment methods will include written questions, case studies, role plays, and skills demonstrations in the workplace.

Pathways

Further training pathways from this qualification lead to higher tertiary education. After completion, students can enroll in an Advanced Diploma program or relevant Bachelor’s degree.

Participants who exit this course at any time prior to completion will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units of competency they have successfully achieved.

To be awarded the RII60520 Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design qualification, learners must be deemed competent in 12 units of competency, as specified in the RII Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package qualification rules, which include:

  • Five (5) Core Units plus
  • Seven (7) Elective Units, consisting of:
    • At least 2 must be chosen from Group A of this training package
    • At least 3 must be chosen from Group B of this training package
    • No more than 2 units from elsewhere within this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course
